DRM drains music players

Digital very good music player battery existence is negatively influenced by playing digital legal rights-managed (DRM) files, a study explains.

The report highlights that DRM poses an additional stress on players, which must make sure that tracks are legitimate when they play them. This drains battery existence. Among the worst offenders with this, based on CNet News.com, are Home windows Media-protected subscription music files.

Battery existence can also be influenced by using different earphones, playing music that’s been compressed above 128k, departing the screen lit, switching the background music player off and on, playing music at high volume, watching video and pictures and so forth.

The report warns that any battery existence claims from manufacturers are just estimates. “Rated battery existence should be utilized for helpful information rather than be used literally,” they write.
